AAPI for Hillary Campaign Updates

Lisa Changadveja, Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders Outreach Director for the campaign, sent out an email this morning with updates on a number of exciting efforts!

Here’s an excerpt:

  • AAPI for Hillary meetings in Houston. October 1 & 2. Lisa Changadveja will be in Houston on Thursday, Oct 1 and Friday, Oct 2 and meeting with a few AAPI leaders about our campaign. If you know people who are in Houston that might be interested in learning more about the campaign, let us know!
  • AAPI for Hillary Launch. TBD. We are still working on a timeline and finalized plans for our AAPI for Hillary launch but don’t let that stop you from organizing now! Many people on this list have already started the beginning steps to form Filipinos for Hillary, South Asians for Hillary, and more. As these get formed, we will help push it out so everyone is aware of how to get involved. If you are interested in starting a group or being part of one, let us know and we can help get you started!
  • AAPI Press Roundtable in Brooklyn, NY. TBD. We are planning to host an AAPI Press Roundtable at the beginning of October. This is a good opportunity for AAPI journalists and outlets to tour our office, see what we do and hear from the campaign directly. If you have AAPI media lists of any sort, please share! TV, radio, print, social media, bloggers — we want it all!
  • AAPI Grassroot Fundraisers. A great team in Los Angeles are already planning to kick-off our AAPI for Hillary grassroot fundraisers in October. A Bay Area one is also being planned. We will keep you updated as they set date. If you are interested in hosting an AAPI fundraiser in your city, please let us know!
  • AAPI for Hillary Roundtables: VA, MA, MN, GA. We are still wanting to do AAPI roundtables in these states. Thank you for those of you that have already helped us get connected to leaders in these states. We’ll keep you updated as we set dates!

  • Our NV team hosted a Filipino Kamayan Dinner, which was filmed by Filipino TV (above). The dinner was also mentioned in the Ralston Reports Morning Flash:

With all the talk of the Hispanic vote, and justifiably so, the Asian vote, growing even faster, is often forgotten. Not by the Clinton campaign here, though. The Filipino Channel (did you know there was one?) in Vegas (10 million national viewers!) came to a Hillary outreach event here. This is what real organizations do (“Hello, would you like to sign up for the caucus….”), why she has such an advantage

  • Ideas!: Do you have ideas on how the campaign can engage the community nationally, in Super Tuesday states, or just have an idea of a great event/place that Hillary should visit? Let us know!
  • Surrogates: Do you know an AAPI person that would make an excellent surrogate and really turn out a crowd? Introduce us!
  • Interns: Know of any young energetic AAPI people that love Hillary and are looking for an internship? Must be a student or recent graduate.
  • Details about the internship for our AAPI team is here.
  • Translators: Do you know excellent bilingual writers that would be willing to translate talking points? Introduce us!
  • Stories: Know an AAPI person with a really great Hillary story to share? Introduce us! We are constantly looking for stories to share via video, social media, op-eds and etc.
